Applications

Our flower bulbs are used for different purposes.

Cut flower production

Most of our bulbs are used by professional growers for the production of cut flowers. This mostly applies to tulips. Cut flowers are sold through various sales channels, such as wholesale businesses, auctions, and shops, and are ultimately purposed for the consumer.

Lily flowers are mostly purposed for religious or official events in our sales countries, and for decoration. They are not often purposed for private use.

Different growing methods are used for forcing tulips for cut flower production, such as planting directly in border soil, planting in trays with soil, and water forcing. Tulip bulbs that are planted directly into the border soil are mostly treated at 5°C, while bulbs that are planted in trays are mostly treated at 9°C.

Bulbs for water forcing get a combination treatment at both 5°C and 9°C. After this, the bulbs are placed in special, spiked trays that are filled with water and fertilizer. Water forcing is cleaner and more environmental-friendly than soil forcing and also has better working conditions because the work is considerably lighter.

For more information about the different cooling treatments of tulip bulbs, we refer you to the section ‘Preparation’ under ‘Export’.

Pot plant production

In the case of pot plant production, the growers plant the bulbs in pots and let them grow until the plants are almost blooming. We mostly supply tulip and hyacinth bulbs for pot plant production, but lilies can also be planted in pots.

Dry sale

Dry sale means that we sell our bulbs in bulk to suppliers who put the bulbs in smaller packages and resell them to consumers. These packages are put in nice displays, for example in garden centres or super markets. The consumer then plants the bulbs in his or her own garden and can enjoy a garden full of beautiful flowers in the spring.

Parks

Our flower bulbs are also planted in parks. This involves beautiful parks that transform into a sea of flowers in the spring. We can advise on the construction of the park, and can recommend varieties that are suitable for planting in your park. We also visit a lot of parks before the bulbs are planted, so that we can give applied advice on location.
