On Thursday 23 February, almost all our staff visited two companies. In the morning, we visited Van Egmond Substrates in Amsterdam. This company supplies potting soil for packing the lily bulbs to us. It was very interesting to see how the soil arrived by ship via the North Sea Canal and was mixed and packed with the use of large machines. In the afternoon, we were shown around Van der Gulik Tulips in De Goorn. This company is run by the father of one of our trainees. We saw how the tulip bulbs were planted, rooted in cold storage, put in the greenhouse, and then how the tulips were bunched. We then returned to Enkhuizen by bus. We would like to sincerely thank both companies for their hospitality!
