The weather has been dry in our part of the country for quite some time now. This makes most people happy, but the tulips do not like it very much. The tops of the first tulips have been cut off, and therefore they need water now. A reel is used for the irrigation. The tractor rolls out the hose, and this hose is pulled into the tulip fields for several hundreds of metres. After this, the pump is turned on, and the hose is slowly pulled in again. This can take 6 to 7 hours on average, depending on the length of the piece of land. In an average year, this will happen 3 to 4 times per growing season. In dry years this could happen up to 8 times.
